The Town Centre Management Group's purpose is to ensure that Guildford remains a prosperous and attractive centre. Having identified the town's strengths and weaknesses, the Group aims to draw together all the different aspects of the town centre and formulate a coordinated strategy for the future.

This sector Group works in close conjunction with the Retail Sector Group to help coordinate activities in the Town Centre. It organises such things as the centre's shopping guide and seasonal shopping brochures. Much of this work is overseen and organised by the Town Centre Manager - Maurice Byham, who was appointed in 1995.

Sponsored by Guildford Borough Council and local businesses, the Group liaises between both these groups, sorting out any grievances and ensuring all elements of town centre activity are coordinated and events are effectively promoted. It identifies projects which will enhance or add to the viability of the town centre and provides help to retailers and leisure companies that express an interest in opening outlets in Guildford.

General promotional work on behalf of all the centre's businesses

The Safer Guildford Partnership Scheme - this is in partnership with Guildford Police and will involve setting up a private pager system throughout the town centre to enable the police to provide information on emergencies to businesses and retailers. In conjunction with this, there would be provision for a 'lost child initiative' and for passing on Anti Theft information to those stores who are not on Town Link Radio.
