Environment

Environment Image At Guildford, we believe it is essential to protect and enhance the quality of our natural and built environment. Our environment is important to us all. The air we breathe, the views we treasure, the collection of our rubbish and the maintenance of roads, pavements and parks all contribute to our well being and the health of our community.

Services Group
This group works hard to keep Guildford's streets clean, tidy and pleasant. Their services include cleaning the streets, collecting domestic and commercial
waste, recycling, maintaining public conveniences, managing the borough's car parks and parking control.

Development Group
This group include Development Control who manage the development of land in the borough by making decisions on planning applications; Building Control who control the quality and safety of developments in the borough; and Planning Enforcement, who make sure that planning law is followed and investigate situations where we suspect it is being broken. Two administration teams provide support to the group.

Environmental Planning Group
This group manages the land use
planning policy work, as well as local agenda 21 activities. Local Agenda 21 requires us and other agencies to work towards more sustainable development. This group also includes: a team who deal with engineering and transport policy matters; a conservation and design team who look after listed buildings, conservation areas, landscape design matters; and the community safety wardens.
Environmental Health
This team gives advice on food safety, occupational
health and safety issues and related services such as licensing. They also work to control air and noise pollution, and monitor local air quality and publish a local air quality strategy. The environmental protection team work to implement a contaminated land strategy. Another important part of the team's work is nuisance investigation and dealing with anti-social behaviour. They are also involved in providing gypsy site management, pest control and dog wardening services. Contact the Care Centre on 01483 564821 for our emergency out of hours service which is provided every day of the year.
