All of the planning services in the borough are provided by the Department of Environmental & Planning Services. This department is managed by the Director of Environmental & Planning Services, Elizabeth Mitchell.

Within this department, there are two groups who manage the planning process. They are the Environmental Planning Group (EPG) and the Development Group (DG)

The Environmental Planning Group is managed by the Head of Environmental Planning, John Davey. 

The Development Group is managed by the Head of Development, Carol Humphrey. The group deals with applications for planning permission and enforcing planning law. With the help of two administration teams, these services are provided by two development control teams and an enforcement team. The building control team is also within this group. 

The development control section is split into two area teams - an east team and a west team. These teams are responsible for planning applications within their area of the borough. Each team has a principal planner who is also the team leader. 

The enforcement team has a principal planning enforcement officer who is also the team leader.  There are three other enforcement officers within this section.
