The council provides support to the business community through the following services:
The Business Support Service - The business support service incorporates the business support officer, business partnership officer and town center manager who coordinate policy, carry out economic development work and foster links with the business community.
Development Control - Planning is a complex area and, once you have a clear idea of what you want to do, an early meeting with the Council's planning officer is the most cost effective way of achieving progress.
Building Control - Most commercial/business development require building regulations approval prior to the commencement
Pollution Control - Some industrial or trade process must be authorised by the council in respect of the control of emissions to the atmosphere.
Food Safety Services - All food services need to be aware of food safety legislation irrespective of their nature or size.
Noise Control - Information on the common sources of noise and noise controls that relate to business together with the practical steps you can take to minimise noise.
Licensing - The Council has a duty to licence, consent or register a wide range of business activities, particular those where there are issues relating to public safety.
Pest Control -Not only are pest a costly nuisance but they can also cause substantial damage and result in serious financial loss to business, especially food premises.
Business Rates - and rural rate relief for business suffering hardship
Guildford Business Forum - an organisation set up to allow businesses, Guildford Borough Council and Surrey Chambers of Commerce to work in partnership
Surrey Business Enterprise and Blackwater Valley Enterprise are given some funding by the Council to provide advice to business start-ups and small businesses.
