Building Control

Most commercial/business developments require Building Regulations approval prior to the commencement of building work.

Guildford Borough Council’s Building Control Officers are committed to providing a first class customer orientated service to the business sector.

The developers/designers of such development projects are therefore actively encouraged to contact the Borough Council’s Building Control Officers at the earliest possible time in the development process.  Please telephone

The Service

The Borough Council’s Building Control Officers have extensive local knowledge and experience that can be of great assistance in helping to progress development proposals and resolve any problems that may arise at an early stage.

Building Control Officers are always happy to provide guidance and answer questions on all building regulation matters.  Advice is provided free of charge.

Pre-application meetings

Pre-application meetings with both developers and applicants can be readily arranged.  The Council’s technical officers have an extensive knowledge of the Building Regulations and local conditions particularly with regard to ground conditions.

Pre-application meetings can often speed up and ease the turnaround and approval process of an application.

Co-ordination with other organisations

Building Control Officers are also in regular direct contact with other Council departments and with important outside authorities, such as the Surrey Fire and Rescue Service and can coordinate additional expertise as necessary.
