Housing

House Image

The Housing and Health department of Guildford Borough Council deals with almost all housing matters, regardless  of whether the enquirer is an owner, landlord, tenant (of the Council or other), or is someone looking for help or advice with housing.  Where a housing related service (such as Housing Benefits) is provided by another department there will be a link from the Housing Page.

Access to the different parts of the housing site is through a series of subjects.  If there is not a subject which exactly fits your enquiry or question, please choose the one which seems to be the closest to your request.

Housing Strategy.
The Housing Strategy Statement sets out the Council's assessment of Housing needs and how it plans to meet these needs.

Homelessness.
The Homelessness Act 2002 requires every local authority to carry out a review of homelessness in its area and to develop a strategy for tackling it.  The changes are aimed at promoting a more strategic approach to managing homelessness.

Shared Ownership.
Shared Ownership is a method of getting your first step on the property ladder. It enables people who cannot afford to purchase a property on the open market to buy part of a property, with a housing association or the local authority owning the remaining share. You pay rent to the landlord calculated on the amount of the property that you do not own.

Tenant Services.
Guildford Borough Council offers a wide variety of tenant services including nuisance, noise, queries and problems, and repairs.

Housing Advice.
You can visit, phone or contact us by e-mail to get information on a wide range of housing related issues.  We are able to offer a free and confidential service to families, couples and single people.

Sheltered Housing.
Guildford Borough Council has 10 units situated across the Borough, totalling some 358 sheltered housing dwellings, of which two schemes have been specifically designed for extra care. Here tenants enjoy the privacy of their own self-contained flat.  Click here to view pages offering information on associated services for the elderly.

Grants.
Did you know that Guildford Borough Council gives a range of grants every year to eligible owners and tenants and can put you in touch with other agencies providing similar cash grants where it cannot help directly.  Click here for information on grants for voluntary care organisations.

Housing for Keyworkers
This new development of shared ownership apartments will be completed and available for purchase from the New Year.

Wodehouse Place Appartments
