Who are we?

Founded in 1898 by Surrey Archaeological Society, Guildford Museum now houses the largest collection of archaeology, local history and needlework in the county.

What can you see?

Archaeology Our collection ranges from Palaeolithic hand axes to Roman priests' head dresses, Saxon coins, famous Mediaeval floor tiles, and an outstanding collection of 17th century pottery and glass.

Local History

We display objects and pictures covering local trades and industries, social life and customs, childhood and the home. Artefacts relating to local characters, such as Lewis Carroll and Gertrude Jekyll, also feature prominently.

Needlework

Our needlework collection includes most types of sewing, such as samplers, patchwork, dress accessories, baby clothes and lace, and a large collection of smocks.
