Cockroach can carry diseases (e.g. dysentery, gastro-enteritis, typhoid and tuberculosis) from dirty areas to areas that need to be kept clean, like kitchens.

There are two common cockroaches found in this area these are the German Cockroach (Blattella germanica) & the Oriental Cockroach (Blatta orentalis).

Cockroaches are large insects The German cockroach is about 12mm long and the Oriental is about 22mm long.

The German cockroach are yellowish brown in colour and the Oriental is dark brown.

They spend most of their day hiding in cracks and crevices

They are not fussy eaters and even eat hair and leather goods.

They are quite social insects and can often be found in groups.

Treatment.

Spray, dust and bait insecticides can be used. Daytime hiding places must be found and treated with insecticide.

Cockroaches are very difficult to treat due to the persistent nature of the eggs. And professional advice is recommended.
