Mayor organises fun events and offers unique opportunity to meet the stars Rock and pop legend Hugh Cornwell is returning to Guildford to star in what the Mayor describes as �a spectacular display of musical talent.� On Saturday 7 December , Hugh will perform some of the Stranglers� biggest hits - including Peaches, No More Heroes and Always The Sun. He will be heading a lineup of the area�s best bands for the Mayor�s Charity Concert at Guildford Civic. This is being supported by 96.4 The Eagle radio, The Academy of Contemporary Music and The Surrey Advertiser and many others. Councillor Tony Phillips, Mayor of Guildford, said: �We have been wonderfully lucky to obtain this spectacular lineup for a memorable concert. �There is a unique opportunity for the real enthusiasts,� he added. �We have a few VIP tickets at �15 each which entitle the holders to come along to the after-concert party and rub shoulders with the stars. They�re on sale and first come, first served. The aim is to have a great evening while raising funds for the Beacon Appeal, the chosen charity for my mayoral year. �The Beacon provides palliative care for those with life-changing illnesses and I am sure most people know someone who is coping with cancer. I am inviting them to help me raise funds for another specialist post at the Beacon Centre, and to have a good time in the process.� Charity Concert The Mayor�s appeal also provides opportunities for Guildford residents and visitors to hone their wine appreciation skills, with Arthur Rackham emporia Christmas wine tasting events at the Guildhall, High Street, Guildford on Friday 6 December, from 6 to 9pm; Saturday 7 December from10am to 1pm and on Saturday 7 December from 2 to 5pm. �This is a golden opportunity to taste a selection from over 60 wines from an award-winning wine list and to place orders for Christmas delivery,� said Councillor Phillips Ten pounds out of every hundred spent will be donated to The Beacon Appeal. Anyone who is confident of their palate and wine tasting skills can take part in a blind wine tasting competition to win a magnum of champagne. Why not get together with a group of colleagues, friends or family and enjoy some wonderful wines.
