The Education department of the RHS suports and develops the teaching and learning potential of plants and gardening as appropriate to the National Curriculum in a variety of ways :

  • Through School Visits to the Garden which are tailored to the individual needs of the school by the Education Officer and underscore concepts taught in the classroom.
  • Through INSET Days. These are open to teachers and other providers of plant-linked education and the day-long courses assist them in the delivery of the National Curriculum via the media of plants.
  • Through a Schools Membership Scheme. The scheme (currently free) provides a direct link between teachers, pupils and the Wisley Education Department. Members receive a Newsletter three times a year and can seek free horticultural advice from the Education Department.

The Education Department is also involved with the Greenfingers Challenge, a nationally organised competition for groups of young people up to the age of 18.

The RSPB has membership catergories for schools, youth groups, children and adults.
