River Wey

The Wey was one of the first British rivers to be made navigable, and opened to barge traffic in 1653. This 15 1/2 mile waterway linked Guildford to Weybridge on the Thames and thence to London. The Godalming Navigation opened in 1764, enabling barges to work a further 4 miles up river.

Dapdune Wharf offers a fascinating insight into the history of the River Wey Navigation.

Narrow boats may be hired from Guildford Boat House, which also operates  river trips during the summer months.
