Surrey Youth Games
Over the weekend of the 14th and 15th June, Guildford hosted the BAA Gatwick Surrey Youth Games. It is the largest youth event for sport in the county with well over 2,000 young people from all over Surrey competing. The games were held at Guildford Spectrum, Stoke Park, Surrey University and St Georges College, Weybridge.	There were a number of success stories including three gold medals in the Badminton, Squash and Athletics, 2 silvers in the MLD Football and Netball and three bronze. The games were played in an excellent spirit with all boroughs enjoying the competition as well as the sunshine. The weekend is the end result of months of hard work for all the competitors, team managers and volunteers, training weekly at various clubs and schools in the borough.
200 future sporting hopefuls ranging from 9 to 15 years of age represented Guildford Borough, entering 24 out of 26 sports categories. The squad finished in third place overall, a great achievement in such a high level of competition.
The Guildford squad was supported by Meldrum, Salter, Edgely who kindly sponsored all Guildford teams and Vicki Hansford SDO for the University of Surrey. Vicki was heavily involved in the selection process, entering of teams and organisation on the day.
As the Surrey Youth Games continues to grow so does the support from clubs and schools in Guildford and without them many young people would not have the opportunity to experience such a fantastic event. Congratulations to all who took part and supported Guildford on the day.
