Olympic Silver medallist, athlete Darren Campbell, officially opened the new health and fitness centre at Ash Manor Sports Centre, Ash Manor School, Ash on Wednesday (15^th October) with Councillor John Ades who headed up the partnership that successfully funded and built the centre.

The £1 million development called ‘energy level’, houses a brand new forty-station gym with cardiovascular equipment and a weight and circuit training area. The new fitness suite complements the existing sports hall, gymnasium and outdoor all-weather pitch to create a comprehensive sports centre or West Guildford, which will benefit both the school and the local community. In addition to ‘energy level’, sports activities available on the site include badminton, basketball, roller-hockey, aerobics, netball, Trampolining, football and circuit training.

The new sports centre is a result of a partnership between Ash Manor School, Guildford Borough Council and Surrey County Council. Guildford Spectrum, which received a Silver FLAME Award from the Fitness Industry this month for the successful management of its gym, will manage the gym.

Darren Campbell, who opened the centre said, “I’ve opened many different sports centres and gyms over the last few years and this new sports centre is one of the best. It offers great opportunities for children to pursue their sporting dreams and will hopefully be enjoyed by the whole community. I wish you all good luck with it.”
