Saturday 21 February 2004 - Talk by Janet Dowling - Storyteller "Sex Lies and Videotape: The Brothers Grimm Experience". From the day the Grimm Brothers published their collection of folk tales, both have been the subject of controversy. Where did they get the stories from? Did they sex the stories up, or did they tone them down? Did they rewrite them to suite the moral climate, or are they really "as told" to them? What has been the impact of Disney on the way the tales are told? More importantly - have the stories passed their "use by" date - or do they still have a value for us today? This talk accompanies the David Hockney exhibition of Grimms Fairy Tale etchings taking place from 10 January to 13 March 2004
