In this second part of Beryl Matthews' trilogy, the outbreak of the Second World War throws the whole country into a world of uncertainty, danger and despair. Annie Webster's brothers join up, her sweetheart Paul becomes a fighter pilot, and Annie, desperate to help, finds herself in the WAAF, where her intelligence and warmth lead her into her own test of courage.

This is an exciting venture for the Book Festival and where better to hold it than the Banqueting Hall of Horsley Towers. In keeping with this beautiful building we are giving the evening a historical feel.
