SYNOPSIS

The script illustrates with stories and songs how this small town, a favoured place for royal visits, grew through the success of its wool trade and developed into the lively and cosmopolitan centre it is today.

The characters of famous Guildford writers such as PG Wodehouse’s Bertie Wooster and Lewis Carroll’s Alice tell some of the stories.

Others feature famous historical figures – George Abbot, Archbishop of Canterbury, Yvonne Arnaud, Actress, Alan Turing, the Enigma Code breaker to name a few.

Innovative technologies of computer graphics, sound and special effects lighting will variously produce bloody massacres, mediaeval partying, rioting in the streets and ominous doodle bug approaches. The whole show is presided over by the “Lord of Misrule” (the fruity voice of Edward Kelsey. (Joe Grundy of the Archers) and will conclude with a plea to cherish Guildford’s heritage, spoken by Penelope Keith.
