Home Improvement Grants
Did you know that Guildford Borough Council gives a range of grants every year to eligible owners and tenants and can put you in touch with other agencies providing similar cash grants where it cannot help directly.
Current policy targets assistance towards:
- Mandatory adaptations for disabled persons.
- Minor Works Grants to persons over 60 or people with a long-term disability.
- Fire precautions in respect of Houses in Multiple Occupation.
- Home Improvement Grants to repair or improve dwellings.
- Affordable warmth and renewable energy initiatives.
- Works to bring long-term empty properties back into use.
- Solar loans – see link below entitled Home Improvement Policy
Eligibility to apply
This varies between the various grant types available, from any owner or tenant allowed to authorise works, through to those that require individual testing of an applicant’s resources. Landlords eligibility is based upon rental income from the property. Rules are complex and special conditions apply.
Amount of grant
This depends on the type of grant applied for, i.e. the maximum for a home improvement grant is £12,000.
Grant conditions
While some grants impose a condition period of 5 years, the majority are now designed to be repayable if a property is sold or transferred within a 25year period. This enables to Council to ‘re-cycle’ funds and help even more people to live in more suitable housing.
