Affordable Housing in the Borough

Guildford Borough is an attractive place to live and work, but housing costs are among the most expensive in the Country. The housing market cannot cater for all households at all stages of their life and it is important that there is alternative accommodation of good standard and quality available.
Increasing affordable housing opportunities is one of the Council's Strategic Priorities, as it recognises affordable accommodation is vital component in meeting the social needs of community as well as contributing to the area's economic success.

Affordable housing is provided by the Council and its Housing Association partners through the Guildford Homes Partnership in a variety of tenures and types of accommodation to best meet individuals needs.
Schemes presently include the traditional affordable rented accommodation, shared ownership for those wanting a helping hand onto the property ladder and in the near future sub marlet rented accommodation for those requiring shorter term accommodation, perhaps as a result of taking up employment in the area.

In rural villages affordable housing schemes are tailored to meet the specific needs of the villagers, to ensure that local people can remain close to work and families and within the community they were born.
Affordable housing also caters for those with special needs or disabilities who cannot easily resolve their accommodation needs in the open market.
