NEW Purple Box Kerbside Collection

All houses on the Kerbside Recycling Scheme should now have received their new ‘purple’ box.

The new scheme will make it easier for residents to recycle more materials.

The purple box will be collected on the same day as the green box and just like before, residents need to ensure the boxes are on the kerbside by 7am on the day of collection.
If any of your neighbours haven’t received their or don’t have a green box then please contact the Recycling Hotline on 01483 445084 or contact Suzanne Attryde.

Weekly Collection

The Kerbside Collections service is to become weekly rather than fortnightly.

Starting from December, the weekly collections will be phased in across the borough.  We hope to have all residents on weekly collections by March 2004.

If your neighbours have any concerns about this change or wish to confirm which day their boxes will be collected then they can call the
Recycling Hotline on 01483 445084

Community Recyclers – The Facts!

Have you ever thought you would like to do something to help the environment that doesn’t take up much of your time?

Then you may be interested in our Community Recyclers Initiative!

Becoming a Community Recycler is a fantastic way to help the local and global environment, meet new people and really make a difference to your local community.

If you are interested, then please read the FAQ’s below!

What are Community Recyclers?

During 2003, Guildford Borough Council conducted some research which showed that people’s recycling behaviour is predominantly influenced by their neighbours behaviour.

As a result, Guildford Borough Council sought out like-minded people in the community who would be interested in helping to support their neighbours and their local communities’ recycling efforts.

This network of volunteers are now known as ‘Community Recyclers’.

What do Community Recyclers do?

All Community Recyclers are volunteers with busy lives so their level of commitment and involvement is left completely up to them.  Those that have little spare time, help the campaign by ensuring their kerbside collection boxes are put out on the correct day at the correct time – to act as a reminder to their neighbours.

Others who have more free time get involved in activities such as: writing articles for their parish council or Church newsletter, putting posters up on display boards or delivering leaflets to their neighbours.

Some Community Recyclers have also chosen to get together with others and from ‘Recycling Groups’. There is a Recycling Group in both Clandon and Horsley.

Does it cost me anything?

Becoming a Community Recycler should not cost you anything. If you would like leaflets or posters designed and printed then we can do this on your behalf and will cover all of the costs.

What contact do Community Recyclers have with Guildford Borough Council?

Community Recyclers are given a contact name and direct line telephone number for a member of staff at Guildford Borough Council who coordinates all aspects of the Community Recyclers Initiative.

The current contact is Suzanne Attryde who is contactable on 01483 445046 or via email; [email protected].  She can be contacted at anytime for help, support and advice.

A newsletter is sent to all Community Recyclers on a regular basis and ‘get-togethers’ will be organised a couple of times each year.

What do I do if I am interested in becoming a Community Recycler?

If you are interested then please complete the Community Recyclers Feedback Form and email it to Suzanne Attryde; [email protected] or post it to; Recycling Team, Guildford Borough Council, Woking Road Depot, Woking Road, Guildford, Surrey, GU1 1QE.

Completing this form is not a commitment and Community Recyclers are able to withdraw from participation, temporarily or permanently, whenever they choose.
