Energy Matters is an exciting new initiative developed by the Centre for Sustainable Energy in partnership with Surrey Education Services, Guildford Borough Council and Surrey County Council. |
The Energy Matters programme is ideal for Schools looking for a ready to run project that requires minimal preparation time, a project that is suitable for activity weeks, post SATs projects, bridging KS 2/3 initiatives, teaching Education for Sustainable Development, Cirtizenship and energy issues within the curriculum.
Using the Energy Matters programme will bring benefits to schools, pupils and families.
The benefits to teachers include:
- A free workshop to introduce the programme.
- A free resource pack.
- On going support whilst you use the resource.
The benefits to your school include:
- A way to develop education links between the school and home.
- Opportunities for pupils to develop their role as environmental decision makers.
- An opportunity to generate good publicity and to develop stronger links with your local authority.
Energy Matters is based around a home energy survey that allows pupils to gather real data in a familiar environment, analyse this data and produce recommendations for improving energy use, based upon their findings.
It helps to deliver education for sustainable development across the Curriculum, including literacy, numeracy, PSHE and citizenship.
The resource pack for Energy Matters is written by teachers and has already been successfully used by a number of schools in Guildford. .
The FREE 2003 training session took place in and was attended by representatives from Howard of Effingham School, Tillingbourne School, Shere Infants School, Tormead School and a representative from the Guildford Environmental Forum.
