Development plan and the Local Plan

Development plans are prepared following a statutory process of public consultation and discussion. They are written in line with national and regional planning policy and provide local planning authorities with a means of balancing the conflict between the need for development and the need to protect the natural and built environment.

Development plans aim to provide a firm basis for fair and consistent decision making in respect of planning applications.

For Guildford there are two main statutory development plans:

The Surrey Structure Plan 1994 sets out the broad strategic policies for the county. This is prepared by Surrey County Council

The Guildford Borough Local Plan 2003 sets out detailed development policies for the borough. This is prepared by Guildford Borough Council.

Our Local Plan 2003 was adopted at a meeting of the full Council on Thursday 9 January 2003. It came into operation on 24 January 2003.

The Local Plan is saved in PDF (portable document format). To view these documents you will need to download Acrobat Reader.
