Conservation and Design in Guildford
Guildford is fortunate to have large areas of very high urban and rural quality, although there are significant areas requiring enhancement. It is therefore important to encourage the highest standards of design. The Council achieves this through Conservation Area control, Listed Building control, and the implementation of its urban design policies in the Guildford Borough Local Plan (Emerging). The Council also runs an Environmental Improvement Programme to improve the quality of selected areas and a Historic Buildings Grant Scheme to help owners keep historic building in good repair. Supplementary Planning Guidance provides design advice to members of the public. Recent examples include ‘Shopfronts in Historic Areas’ & ‘Residential Extensions’. |
