Steps you can take to reduce noise in your own home.
Below are some simple measures to help reduce noise in your home:
Keep noise of TVs radios and Hi-Fis as low as possible, especially at night. If you would like to increase the volume try to use headphones.

Warn neighbours in advance of any parties you are intending to have.

Do noisy household tasks including DIY in normal working hours.

Keep noisy household appliances away from partition walls.
Try to use noisy household appliances during the daytime.
If you have a flat above another one try to avoid bare floorboards or wood flooring, carpet is much better at insulating noise.
Try to carry out unavoidable noisy activities during social hours these are 8.00am to 7.00pm weekdays and Saturdays and between 10:00am and 5:00pm Sundays. Although if possible avoid noisy work on Sundays all together.
If you use a taxi or minicab early in the morning or late at night ask the driver to knock rather sounding his horn.

If you have a house burglar alarm register with surpol by clicking here. This will allow the police to gain emergency access which will save time and property damage and also allow you to change contact details at will. *Please note the service is operated by a private firm at a charge.
