Services Group  This group works hard to keep Guildford's streets clean, tidy and pleasant.  Services offered by this group include cleaning the streets, collecting domestic and commercial refuse, recycling, maintaining public conveniences, managing the borough's car parks and parking control.  To find our more about these services, click on waste management and parking.
Development Group This group includes Development Control dealing with planning applications, Building Control who deal with building regulations applications and Enforcement. This group’s main task is to manage the regulatory function of planning and building control in order to ensure that new development both accords with planning policy and is not detrimental to its neighbours. Where individuals or companies infringe planning laws or local conditions the enforcement service will investigate and where appropriate take action.
Environmental Planning Group This group manages the land use planning policy work and local agenda 21 activities (the latter derives from a declaration in 1991 which the UK government accepted and which requires that local authorities and other agencies work towards more sustainable development). It also includes sections who deal with engineering matters, for example designing and implementing the borough’s own schemes and transport policy matters. There is also a conservation and design team who look after listed buildings, conservation areas, landscape design matters and community safety through the community safety wardens.
Environmental Health Advice on food safety, occupational health and safety issues and related regulatory services including licensing services. Air and noise pollution control is provided including local monitoring of air quality and publication of the local air quality strategy. Work to implement the Council's contaminated land strategy is conducted by the environmental protection team. Nuisance investigation and dealing with anti-social behaviour is an important part of the teams work as is the provision of gypsy site management, pest control and dog wardening services.
