| Engineering Services undertakes the statutory land drainage function on behalf of the Council and manages the responsibilities for the sections of the river where the Council are riparian owners.
The flooding during the winter months of 2000/2001 has increased the demands put on this section. Whilst the direct flooding from the rivers was an issue, numerous other problems from other sources such as run off from saturated farmland, re-established springs, blocked sewers were also dealt with.
Some of the more major issues are still being studied on a multi-agency basis after the emergency relief measures were carried out. If you wish to obtain information on flooding please contact the Environment Agency (0845 9881188). For general queries on land drainage which do not include rivers please contact Dennis Batchelor within our section on 01483 444508.
