Guildford Borough Council is committed to promoting sustainable transport and providing travel choice for the community.
A network of cycle routes is being created in partnership with Surrey County Council, while a number of pedestrian improvements have been made through the implementation of the borough's Walking and Lighting Strategies. Five park and ride sites now serve the Town at weekdays and weekends, with two more sites planned to help ease congestion in the town centre and reduce the pressure on parking.
Guildford is well served by public transport and together with the County Council and private operators, the Borough Council are continuously looking to help improve passenger transport services and encourage their wider use.
The Council has its own Green Travel Plan and aims to promote Travel Plans to businesses and other public sector companies in an effort to reduce peak time congestion and improve air quality and the local environment. A Travel Plan is a package of practical measures, tailored to the needs of individual businesses and organisations. It involves the development of a set of mechanisms, initiatives and targets that together can enable your organisation to reduce the impact of travel on the environment.
