Blowing the whistle on bus shelter vandalism
Repair costs, resulting from a recent increase in vandalism to bus shelters across Guildford, could drain resources away from other areas.
With the cost of repairs amounting to a minimum £200 for each occurrence, ongoing vandalism to bus shelters not only drains council tax resources, but also creates a host of other problems to the local community. Safety issues resulting from broken glass pose a particular threat to the young and the elderly, and each time a bus shelter is out of action due to vandalism, a valuable service is taken away from these more vulnerable members of the community.
The Safer Guildford Partnership is appealing for local residents to think seriously about revealing the identity of any known culprits. With a remit to make the Borough safer and healthier, paying attention to reducing fear of crime, they are urging anyone with any information to take action. If you see vandalism happening, please call the police on 999. You can report information about this or any other crime to Surrey Police on one number 0845 125 555, or anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111
By working together, we can all help to tackle local problem hotspots, maintaining Guildford as a safe, healthy place to live and work.
