How safe is Guildford Borough? Did you know that Surrey has the lowest level of recorded crime in England? Guildford’s crime rate reflects this. Whether you live or work here, Guildford is your Borough, your community and your safety. We are lucky living in the Borough of Guildford – it’s not just a beautiful area set in wonderful countryside, it’s also a safe place to live, work and visit.
What is the Safer Guildford Partnership?
The Safer Guildford Partnership is Guildford’s Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership. Its aim is to maintain Guildford Borough’s position as one of the safest places to live, work and visit in the country. The role of the Partnership is to reduce crime and disorder in the community, as well as tackling fear of crime too. A Crime and Disorder Audit is conducted every three years. This audit involves wide consultation and analysis of data such as crime figures. The audit ensures that the Partnership is tackling the issues that you want to see improved in the area you live in. Following the audit, an action plan is created, the Community Safety Strategy.
Within the strategy, there are 14 projects ranging from youth issues, to burglary and domestic violence. The projects each have a team working to achieve the targets within the strategy. The project teams are made up of the Partners and also include voluntary organisations and individuals who can offer something towards achieving the targets. If you believe you can help, please contact us.
The project teams report on their progress regularly to an Executive group made up of senior members of the partnership.
The Partnership currently includes Guildford Borough Council, Surrey Police, Surrey County Council, (including Surrey Fire and Rescue), The Probation Service, Guildford and Waverley Primary Care Trust and the Youth Offending Team.
What is community safety?
Community Safety is about every business, person, visitor, pupil and student taking responsibility for their own safety, and having consideration for the safety of those around them
Community Safety is about feeling safe. Perceptions of crime, disorder and safety are an issue of concern in most communities, and directly impact on our quality of life as individuals. Tackling these feelings can help to reduce fear of crime.
A wide range of issues can contribute to crime, including unemployment, poverty, boredom, alcohol, and much more. Only if key agencies work together with you and your community can we really identify and tackle the problems, reduce and prevent crime and disorder, and ultimately increase community safety.
